24-hour Holter recording (ECG)

24-hour Holter recording (ECG)

A Holter test allows your heart rate to be recorded 24 hours a day. The test is performed using a special device. The patient can go home with it and perform everyday activities.

This test evaluates the electrical activity of the heart during normal activity (walking, resting, playing).

Preparation for the Holter test

The test does not require any special preparation.

During the test you should not:

  • take a bath or shower
  • Use pillows and electric blankets
  • Handle the device.

How the Holter test works

Electrodes are attached to the patient’s chest and connected to a recording device.

This device is usually clipped to the patient’s belt. This allows you to move around freely. In case of any discomfort, the patient can signal it with a special button placed in the apparatus.

Moreover, during the examination a diary of the activities performed should be kept, including the exact time of the examination.

Information about the date of removal of the braces is given by the doctor. The examination lasts from 24 to 48 hours.

Indications for Holter monitoring

evaluation of anti-arrhythmic treatment
evaluation of pacemaker function
diagnosis of coronary artery disease, heart rhythm disorders.
