Editorial Guidelines

Editorial Guidelines for the New York Times Special Edition:

  1. Keep it real. Write about things that can actually happen. Be hopeful, playful even, but sell us on a future that we can actually believe in.
  2. Who, what, how. Things just don’t happen out of nowhere. How did this change come to be? Who exactly in government is being pressured and by whom? Your article should be a rough roadmap - not so much for government, as for all of us on how to make it happen.
  3. Tone: Sincere, with humor. Not ironic. There can be some joke stuff, but it should be limited to a sprinkling.

That’s it! Now, go to the future and find something worth writing about.
